How to use
1st use: Open the jar. Empty the sugar packet. Add bourbon (or another spirit, see recipes). Replace the lid. Patiently wait 3 days.
- These are the steps to enjoy a Salty Pucker. When you're ready to have a drink, salt the rim of a coupe (or Nick & Nora) glass. Pour 1 1/2 ounces of infused bourbon from the mason jar into a cocktail shaker with ice. Add 1 ounce of grapefruit juice, 3/4 ounce of Amaro and a splash of lemon juice. Shake vigorously. Strain into your salted coupe glass. Use a vegetable peeler to capture a piece of grapefruit rind. Put the rind between your thumb and forefingers, squeeze gently over the glass. Enjoy.
- Keep pouring the bourbon until it's all gone. (Pace yourself!) Keep the jar and contents of the jar for the next batch.
2nd use: When the first batch is gone, add bourbon and 12 grams of sugar. Demerara is ideal but any sugar will do. Tighten the lid and patiently wait 3 days.
- Now the infused bourbon is ready to be enjoyed.
3rd use: When the second batch of bourbon is gone, the jar ingredients make a lovely, low ABV soda. Add soda water to the jar, filling it up. Add 12 grams of sugar (or less). Gently stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Now pour your flavored seltzer over ice in a highball glass. Makes two 4-ounce servings.
4th use: Now that you've enjoyed your soda, these ingredients have a final life as a simmer pot. In a small saucepan, add 1-2 cups of water. Add the ingredients of the jar and simmer on low heat. This provides a fragrant and enjoyable send off to the ingredients that have served you well.
- Discard the ingredients. Reuse or recycle the jar.
