Named for the prevalent white squirrels in Brevard, NC. Inspired by how Spaniards drink sangria in the summer.
Blanco de verano or white wine of summer, combines homemade wine and soda. Seriously. There is rarely fruit. So it never goes bad! And there is always a pitcher in the fridge.
In this version, we start with dried fruit (orange, lime, lemon). Add 6 oz white rum or tequila. Wait at least 1 day (ideally 3).
Strain and decant infused brandy into a pitcher. Add 1 bottle (750ml) of CHILLED white wine (Pinot Grigio or Chenin Blanc). Add 3/4 liter of lemon-lime soda (Jarritos, Sprite, 7-Up). Serve and enjoy.
The ratio of 6 oz liquor to 1 bottle wine is advised. If you infuse 12 oz of liquor, you’ll be able to make a double batch using 2 bottles of wine. Just like the other infusions, you can use this again.
